May 18: Northwest Oklahoma LP Storm

Evening storm tower near Freedom, Oklahoma, northeast of Woodward.

I chased an earlier storm from Vici to Woodward, but overwhelming chase crowds kept me from a good photo intercept (I missed the earlier tornadoes). It is difficult to get in position for a good photo when hundreds of cars are moving 25 or 30 mph near a supercell! Muddy roads prevented an alternative route.

I found a quiet paved side road to intercept this beautiful LP thunderstorm. Even with chase mobs, it is still possible to find some nice rural settings to enjoy a scenic storm.

Final view of the storm before it weakens at dusk. Twenty miles to my northwest, a new thunderstorm is developing. After dark, it becomes a classic supercell with a large long-lived tornado in central Kansas. This is a good example of ingredients for a high-impact storm not coming together until well past sunset.
May 22: Northwest Texas Squall Line

Squall line is developing over remote ranch land east of Paducah, Texas.

Widespread thunderstorms today in a high CAPE environment. I have this storm all to myself.

Ragged updraft ahead of the rain core. Rain-cooled outflow surges ahead of the storm in a linear structure.

Under the shelf cloud in Eldorado, Oklahoma. Good reminder today of the joys of chasing marginally severe storms without crowds of chasers and locals.
May 24: Western Oklahoma Storm

High CAPE but very strong cap due to warm 850 mb temperatures. Near sunset this lone thunderstorm finally develops near the town of Durham in far western Oklahoma.

Two thunderstorms near the Antelope Hills.
May 25: West Texas Supercell

Storm near Matador, Texas on a hot, humid day with weak winds at all levels.

Ranch west of Guthrie. Summer-like weather pattern, but still a good afternoon of watching a long-lived storm.
May 26: Central Texas Supercell

HP Supercell near the town of Menard in central Texas.

Outflow-dominant storm with large hail and intense rainfall.

Final view before I escape from the storm as it heads into the difficult chase territory of the Texas Hill Country.
