Day 3: Seven Gables trail (on the way to Vee Lake)

First sunlight hits the Seven Gables.

The trail to Vee Lake and Seven Gables Lakes begins at the JMT/PCT crossing of Bear Creek.

We're well prepared for a long dayhike to the rugged high country.

As we approach 10,000 feet, the views open up.

Following faint trails up the valley.

A rugged section, not bad with day packs but could be challenging with a full backpack.

This part of the Sierras got about 200 percent of normal snowfall last winter and all the streams are showing it.

The best way up the valley is across this deep, rushing stream. We decide to continue on the north side, across a large talus field.

Stopped by a seemingly endless field of boulders, but happy to be over 10,000 feet with outstanding views. We'll have to try this trip again during a normal snow year.

On our way back down, carefully re-crossing the talus.

At our lunch stop.

Looking down the creek.

Heading down the valley.

Spectacular view looking back towards Seven Gables.

Another view.

Approaching the rugged slot mid-way down the valley.

We stop to enjoy the scenery.

Mike and Berta.

Closer look.

Back near the campsite, we scope out a swimming spot to wash off the trail dust.

Camping below 10,000 feet lets us enjoy the luxury of a campfire every night.
