June 2nd: Texas Panhandle Supercell

An isolated storm develops near Hereford, southwest of Amarillo, and drifts south. I intercept it early in the evening near Dimmitt.

Under weak northwest flow with light southerly surface winds, the storm produces heavy rain.

Farm about to get swallowed in a downpour.

No structure or rotation at this point. I drive south on dirt roads to stay even with the storm. No other chasers in sight, but that's about to change.

After getting a couple of miles ahead of the storm, I cut west to a paved road. I emerge in the middle of a crowd of chasers.

Outflow-dominant, but still a pretty storm on a day with low potential.

Another wall cloud forms just ahead of the core of heavy rain and large hail, but is soon blown out by the advancing rain-cooled gust front.

Final storm of the season for me.

June 3rd: Lake Meredith, Texas, Thunderstorm

View from my campground as the season ends early this year. With the jet stream parked over the Dakotas and Canada, it's time to go home.
