Day 6: Day Hike to Granite Park
We head up the Italy Pass trail towards Granite Park, one of the more scenic parts of the High Sierra.
As we climb over 11,000 feet we reach the lower part of Granite Park. It does not disappoint.
Taking in another sublime view.
We continue climbing into the heart of Granite Park. The trail is rough and not maintained, but frequent ducks (i.e. cairns) keep us on the best path.
Looking south, towards Pine Creek Pass.
Another beautiful pond surrounded by granite.
Breathtaking views at our lunch stop, half-way up to Italy Pass.
Rugged Alpine scenery, made more astonishing by the scattered storm clouds.
This particular rain cloud moves in as we finish lunch.
One last stop to enjoy the dramatic scenery of Granite Park. We hike out the next day, the end of an outstanding one-week backpacking trip in the eastern Sierra.
